Examples of Green Technology

The growing problem of global warming poses a serious threat to the environment and society. Engineers and scientists are continuously developing technological solutions that will reduce the causes of global warming and reverse the effects of climate change.

Sustainable technology, also known as green technology, allows us to acquire clean energy from natural resources and can transform the energy sector to be more eco-friendly.

Strathsquare is a venture capitalist that believes in substance over numbers. We aim to create connections with innovators who, just like us, want to contribute to building a sustainable future in a wholesome environment for the sake of our planet and society.

We have gathered some of the most promising green technologies that can revolutionise today’s market and ease drastic environmental changes.

Recycling and Waste Management

Proper management of household and industrial waste is one of the most important aspects of fighting the damaging effects of climate change. To combat the constantly growing issue of plastic waste, modern companies have been developing new recycling technologies that aim to reduce the impact on climate change and also tackle the issue of growing plastic pollution.

One of the multinational power companies has introduced an innovative system designed to manage unsorted household waste by dividing plastic fractions into recyclable waste and the material that can be used to produce biogas.

Similarly, chemical recycling is another example of green technology used for managing plastic waste. It’s based on using chemicals to break down plastic waste into components that can be used as fuel or converted into new plastic products.

Generating Energy from Water Waves

Ocean energy which consists of the energy acquired from waves, tides, and currents, is a considerable resource.

There is an innovative system that aims to convert sea waves into zero waste energy and desalinated water using steel-made buoys with pumps. As the pumps drive the high-pressure water to the power plant, which then spins the turbines, zero-emission electricity is created.

Floating Solar Farms

Silicon panels are becoming more productive and cost-effective each day. Experts suggest that if solar panels are placed on reservoirs, they can provide even better efficiency and many other benefits.

“Floatovoltaics” are photovoltaic solar systems designed for floating on reservoirs, dams, and other water bodies. Floating solar farms can produce large quantities of electricity without using valuable land areas or real estate for installation. The costs of installing photovoltaic panels on reservoirs are also lower than installing land-based solar panels. What’s more, it is reported that floating photovoltaics can generate up to 10% more power than other solar systems due to the cooling effects of water.

Other benefits of floating solar panels include better water management. They reduce water evaporation thanks to limiting air circulation and blocking sunlight from the water surface. Also, floating photovoltaics prevent excessive algae production, which results in lower water treatment costs.

Smart EV Charging

Smart electric vehicle (EV) charging is one of the latest technological developments in the area of electric vehicle manufacturing. The system uses intelligence to manage when and how an EV will receive power when plugged into a smart charger.

The innovative charger optimises energy consumption based on grid constraints, energy prices, the availability of energy, as well as driver preferences and needs.

A smart energy management system efficiently delivers power to electric vehicles without interfering with the electricity needs of buildings, homes, and other energy consumers. This can be achieved thanks to optimising the charging infrastructure and shifting charging loads across energy sources.

Plastic Waste Reducing Bubble Curtain

As plastic waste is one of the greatest threats to our environment, modern innovators have been developing technologies aimed at reducing the impact of plastic waste by removing it from water bodies.

One of the latest green technologies has been designed to catch and remove plastic from rivers before reaching the ocean using a bubble curtain.

A bubble curtain is made by diagonally placing a perforated underwater pipeline at the bottom of the river. As the tube pumps the compressed air, it creates a bubble barrier across the entire width of the river.

The barrier lifts plastic waste to the water surface and guides it towards the shore, where a specially designed catchment system captures it.

The bubble curtain can capture even 86% of the plastic waste flowing in our rivers. What’s more, this energy-efficient technology is safe for fish and boat passage and benefits the aquatic ecosystem by increasing the dissolved oxygen in the water.

Final Thoughts

Global warming is a serious issue and an increasingly growing threat to our environment. Many modern innovators who share their visions about a sustainable future with our venture capital company have been developing innovative technological solutions to reverse the effects of climate change.

There are various examples of green technology related to waste management, solar power, or wave energy that operate on natural resources to acquire clean energy. Still, much remains to be done in this field to reduce pollution and waste on a global scale.

Green Technology FAQs

What is the best example of green technology?

One of the best examples of green technology is the innovative way of producing solar panels developed by a German company.

The company addressed the issue related to the size of solar panels and managed to make them as thin and light as paper. These so-called solar films can be combined with other materials, such as concrete or glass, for easier use in various places.

What are current examples of environmental technologies?

The most popular examples of environmental technologies include solar power, wind turbine, wave power, hydroelectricity, photovoltaic and electric vehicle.

These environmental technologies have enabled us to capture naturally occurring energy and convert it into heat or electricity through such devices as solar panels or wind and water turbines.

One of the increasingly developing environmental technologies based on renewable sources is green hydrogen which possible uses expand across multiple sectors, including power generation, fuel cells of electric vehicles, hydrogen-fuelled cars, and manufacturing processes in such industries as steelmaking and cement production.

What are examples of new green technologies?

Some of the newest green technologies include self-fertilising crops, lab production of plant-based meat, cars that do not emit gases, and 3D-printed houses with local soil.

New green technologies have been designed to solve environmental problems related to global warming and climate change by operating on eco-friendly solutions.
